Since the first time we pressed the red record button, we’ve always recorded to some form of tape based medium, VHS, VHS-C and up until now MiniDV. But times are changing (and so is Final Cut – not supporting tape based capturing in the new version which is just around the corner.) so we need to change as well. What does all this mean? Well, I’d like to introduce you to Mako’s latest acquisition….the Panasonic AG-HMC151

But what so different about this camera you ask? In a nutshell – instead of recording to tape it records to SD memory cards (or SDHC if you want to get fussy), the sort of memory cards you typically use in your personal compact camera. So what does all this mean? Well for you the viewer nothing much, but for us it means no more timely logging and capturing, which ultimately means faster production for you the customer.

It’s a lovely bit of kit and we are really happy with the results we have been getting so far.
